The Crossing

One thick vertical line. Two thin ones cutting across. The journey. Ask anyone what life feels like, and they will tell you it rarely goes exactly as planned. We move forward, but we are constantly met with pauses—relationships, sharp decisions, sudden setbacks, and memories that catch us off guard. It is the one universal truth we all share.

This painting puts that truth on canvas. A single, continuous black stroke driving through a signal red ground that pulses with the raw intensity of the world around us. Then, the thin horizontal crossings near the bottom. They intersect the main path, but they never stop its momentum. Nothing else clutters the space. No landscape, no pattern, no second subject. Just the journey, given room to speak.

The black stroke is laid down heavy and raw, its edges frayed and imperfect—because life itself isn’t perfectly clean or straight. The texture reveals the physical drag of the brush, standing stark against the vibrant red. The crossing lines are pulled through by hand, weaving directly into the main path, leaving a permanent, physical mark in the paint without ever breaking the line's continuity.
